It was 1996 and the web had just learned to deliver information to the public. AOL, still a startup, assembled a team of the outdoor industry's best writers, photographers and developers. Their Boulder, Colorado-based Greenhouse Program launched the web's first multi-dimensional online communities in iSki, iBike, iGolf, iRace and others.
At the time, we were experimenting with the first CFM CMS, message boards, social networking tools, newsletters, photo galleries, interactive content, and everything else that is now standard on the web.
The scattered team still jokes:
"Those who preach about Web 2.0 never understood the web in the 1.0st place." The company was quickly snatched up by Times Mirror (NY). A year later, the group was sold to Tribune (Chicago). Another year later, and AOL Time Warner (NY) purchased the entire collection of print and online media properties.
Those were the frontier days of the web, and Skinner Media's founder still maintains contact with those savants who changed the way outdoor enthusiasts use the internet. Fourteen years of front-line, leading-edge experience gives us a comprehensive ability to solve your online challenges and exceed your expectations for your digital brand.
